About Me

Hi friends! Kaylene (the Kay in Kay Bee Handmade) here! If you’re interested to know more about me, my story, and how I began KBH, you’re in the right place.
I’m so grateful to my mom, who has supported and encouraged every single creative outlet I’ve ever pursued! It’s because of that support that I’ve become who I am.
She taught me to crochet at a pretty young age (I was in elementary school), and encouraged every drawing, painting, doodle, and craft project along the way. I’ve also always had a big interest in music, which was integral in my years growing up.
I ended up studying music education, and then performance at Penn State University (I was a flute major). I realized toward the end of my sophomore year that pursuing music as a profession wasn’t for me - though I’ll always love it.
I dropped out of college, ended up moving to the Pittsburgh, PA area to be closer to my husband (then boyfriend). I found my way to cosmetology school by chance in 2012, and ultimately ended up becoming a nail tech!
I’m blessed to work part time at a great nail salon in the area that specializes in nail art - so all of those creative hobbies have paid off in the end!
I’ll admit that I’m a serial hobby collector - but jewelry is one that has stuck for a while now! I started making clay earrings just for myself around 2020/2021, and then with the encouragement of my boss and clients, officially opened my business and started selling earrings at the salon in the spring of 2022.
I did my first pop up event in the summer of 2022 and haven’t looked back!
I’m so grateful for everyone who likes, shares, and comments on my social media content, and especially for those who choose to spend their hard earned money on my products! I truly couldn’t do it without you all!
If you’re interested, I chose my business name because of my initials. My last name begins with a B, but I also keep bees with my mother in law, and have such a love for them. So it seemed to fit!
Thanks for taking the time to read up on me and for stopping by on my shop! I appreciate you!
